News: Miranda Cosgrove to Co-Star in NBC’s ‘Girlfriend in a Coma’
Posted by admin on February 15, 2013 ♥ No Comments

iCarly star Miranda Cosgrove is heading to network TV.

The actress has been tapped to co-star in NBC’s Girlfriend in a ComaThe Hollywood Reporter has learned.

From Nurse Jackie‘s Liz Brixius and Law & Order: SVU/Chicago Fire‘s Dick Wolf, the comedy revolves around Karen (Christina Ricci), who wakes up from a coma after almost two decades to find out she has a 17-year-old daughter from a pregnancy she was unaware of when her life was put on hold.

Cosgrove will play Evie, a small-town, overachieving loner who can’t shake the legacy of being the daughter of “Coma Lady.” When her mother wakes up, her world is turned upside-down and every hope she had of keeping her nose to the grindstone — saving money and getting grades for an out-of-state college — is thrown out the window.

The single-camera comedy is based on the book by Douglas Coupland, with Wolf, Brixius, Danielle Gelber and Peter Jankowski onboard to executive produce. Brixius will pen the pilot.

Should Girlfriend earn a series order, it would mark Cosgrove’s first series regular role on the broadcast networks after starring in Nickelodeon’s iCarly for seven seasons and four on the network’s Drake & Josh. Repped by WME, Anonymous Content and Gang Tyre, Cosgrove next reprises her voice role in the animated feature Despicable Me 2, due July 3.

Miranda Cosgrove and her pals are headed to the Big Apple for a very special “iCarly” episode. During “iShock America,” airing Saturday on Nick, hijinks are sure to ensue as the Web star and her clique chill with Jimmy Fallon and prepare themselves for their national TV debut on “Late Night.”

“The cast gets invited to be on the Jimmy Fallon show ’cause he mentions [us] in his ‘thank you’ note bit. He mentions ‘iCarly.’ And then he ends up inviting us all to be in the show,” she told MTV News about the episode, which features a cameo from another Rock Center regular, Tina Fey. “I love her.”

“Jimmy is awesome,” she added. “I’ve been able to meet him a bunch of times, just being on the show and at events and stuff. He’s like one of the coolest, nicest guys, so everybody was really excited to work with him.”

The cast shot the episode back in May and she shared what it was like to take the series off its Hollywood soundstage and into Fallon’s New York-based studio. “We basically got to go in and work at 12:30 at night ’cause we filmed after he taped his regular show, and we all kind of have like a similar sense of humor, I think,” she said. “And he just made the scenes really funny. So I’m excited for everyone to see the ‘iCarly’ episode. It was definitely one of our coolest episodes.”

It also is one of the last new episodes of the show as it nears its series finale in November. And, while Cosgrove is sad to say goodbye, she also knows that now is the perfect time to bid the show farewell. “It’s definitely really sad,” she said of saying goodbye after five years. “And it’s also really exciting, because we’re all going on to do new things and enter new chapters in our lives, and I know I’m always going to be friends with them.

“They’ve been saying it’s going to be the final season for a few seasons, and then we always end up doing more episodes ’cause we love making the show,” she added. “We love doing it, and we have the best time ever, but we didn’t want to overstay our welcome because we feel like it’s something really special.”

Jimmy Fallon’s episode of “iCarly” airs Saturday night at 8pm on Nickelodeon.
